No Limit Audio Reference One

No Limit Audio is a relatively new name in the loudspeaker industry, but René Kellenberger himself has decades of experience in the field, both in retail and loudspeaker design.
When we met him in Greece on the occasion of the announcement of the company’s entry into the Greek market, he described the requirements he considers essential when designing a loudspeaker. These include high-quality drivers with a time coherence between them, and a rigid, acoustically inert cabinet, all based on the principle that “form follows function”.
No Limit Audio currently offers two product lines, Reference and pure Emotion. The former includes the One, which we are reviewing here, as well as the Monitor, a compact standmount model that is essentially the One’s head section, using the same mid/woofer and tweeter combination. The latter comprises four models, three of them floorstanders based on Kellenberger’s preferred head/bass-module architecture, plus a standmount speaker, the David, which is also the company’s most affordable model. Of the three floorstanding models, the “the fourth dimension” is undoubtedly the standout as it is currently the company’s flagship. It features a head section housing two tweeters: the main one, a 1-inch silk-dome driver made to order specifically for No Limit, and a secondary 19mm supertweeter mounted on the rear, which the company says is intended to improve the stereo image. The lowest part of the audio spectrum is handled by a separate cabinet containing two woofers per speaker. Low-frequency response extends down to 28Hz (-2dB).
The Reference One is a large floorstanding loudspeaker whose architecture is derived from the “the fourth dimension”, including the separate head and bass module, the second tweeter on the rear, and the solid-wood cabinet. In terms of price, it sits just below the flagship, making it the second-most expensive model in their product range.
So, let’s take a look at the details...
